Nanny diaries

For the past two months, I haven't been blogging as much as I would have wanted to. In August, I wasn't  feeling inspired to write anything and was busy hanging out with new friends, trying different activities, testing my courage and strength, which was extremely fun :) As for September, I got a new job, as a nanny for two kids: the brother, half french half viet, is suffering from Down syndrome and his little sister is adopted from Vietnam. I'm not well-paid to be honest and school starts next week, that's why I'm stopping at the end of the month but I'm really glad I tried something unexpected and thankful for all the lessons I've learned.

Despite being underpaid, it feels incredibly nice when I have not just one but four people treating me as a part of their family. My friend said to be careful, they might use affection to exploit me but I refuse to believe that. Adults can lie but it's hard for children to conceal their true feelings toward someone or something and so I choose to believe their love for me is genuine. I've never thought of myself as a kid person. Therefore you can imagine my surprise when I overheard the kids talking to each other, saying how nice I am and how they like me even though "I was a bit slow" (this is after my first week hahaha). Or when the boy asked his mom to tell me that he missed me when he was in the hospital for his 22nd operation and he is only 8 years old. Or when the little girl came running at my way, beaming with pure happiness, then jumped on me every time I picked her up at school. We would walk back home, hand in hand, singing to her own version of Les Champs-Élysées and she would ask me if we could play our own version of the Olympics Games later on and I would say of course and she would be the happiest kid on earth. What I've learned from these two lovely children is that they never hesitate to express their feelings, whether is their affection towards their parents, me or each other or their dissatisfaction each time their sibling does something annoying that bothers them. They love to cuddle and call each other lovely nicknames. The little girl has unexpectedly asked me several times in her sweet little voice: "Je t'aime, tu sais?" (Do you know I love you?) and they both requested that I would drop by to play with them every week starting next week. And let me tell you, all my stress and tiredness just fade away each time they do that. Such little loving gestures have great power and it made me realize that I don't express enough feelings toward my loved ones. And I believe it's very important in any relationship because not only do my beloved deserve to know how much I love them but letting someone know how important he/she is in our heart is an incredible mood-booster and it would make his/her day.
Babysitting these two kids makes me a lot more grateful for my health and for having a supportive family, always there whenever I need them. It also helps me look at life in a lighter, positive way thanks to their innocence and imagination because I'm such a pessimistic perfectionist who loves to complicate things ha :))

So here's to Kim and Lou-Ann, I know you'll never be able to read this but thank you for being my two rays of sunshine, you've been so adorable I stopped wanting to quit this job because of the housework part after week 1 haha. Even though I've been your nanny for a short period of time, I hope I was a good one :D I wish you health, happiness and success in life and I love youuu! Let's make the best out of my last 3 days, shall we? >:D<

Rue des Chats

Just discovered this new Vietnamese brand a couple weeks ago and I'm in love. Their latest and also first collection is right up my cup of tea. Very Parisian chic at the same time suitable for the tropical weather of my homeland : clean strong cut with sweet subtle detailing at the neckline and in the back (my favorite is the top above, ahhh those buttons ); light fabrics such as cotton and silk-crêpe in white, cream and other neutral colors promise to keep you cool, especially when it's hot and humid almost everyday throughout the whole year. I heard that the founders/creators are a couple who went to fashion and photography schools in Paris so maybe that explains the name Rue des Chats and its styling? Also loving their choice of model, Tuyết Lan looks incredibly elegant and fresh in their ad campaign, particularly in this video.

Looking at their lookbook makes me miss how lightly I was able to dress back then, no layers, no coats, no jackets, just top + bottom + shoes or dress + shoes and I was good to go. Gotta cherish the rare summer days when the temperature is actually higher than 20°C. Damn you, global warming!

All photos belong to Rue des Chats.

Definitely stopping by their boutique next time I'm in Hanoi. Or they should open another one in Saigon and Paris :))
